Ihsan, a courageous 12-year-old, found himself thrust into adulthood when tragedy stole his father away. Left with his mother and two younger sisters, he confronted a world veiled in uncertainty and economic hardship. Their grief still fresh, the responsibility of providing for his family became Ihsan's singular focus.

Each morning, Ihsan's took to the streets with a worn sack, gathering discarded cans and scraps to sell—this meager income became their fragile lifeline. In fact, our volunteers found Ihsan during one of these bleak mornings, collecting garbage not only to sell but to use as fuel to keep his family warm and cook food. The jacket he's wearing in the photo was provided by Zhwand Charity, during a bitter cold wave that swept across Afghanistan, claiming too many lives.
